As Commissioner of the Incorporated Village of Hempstead’s Community Development Agency, Ms. Thompson plays a vital role in economic revitalization and creating opportunities for residents as well as business owners. Prior to her appointment in January of 2018, Ms. Thompson served as President and CEO of Thompson Economic Development Services, LLC., an economic development consulting firm whose key clients included NYS Housing Trust Fund Corporation and Hofstra University. She has been a practicing attorney for 20+ years specializing in grant writing, project development, management of federal, state and privately funded economic development programs, government compliance and training.
Ms. Thompson was qualified by the U.S. Office of Housing and Urban Development as a Certified Specialist in the Regulations and Administration of the HOME Investment Partnership Program. She served as a compliance, training and legal consultant for housing developers, not-for-profits, special districts and government agencies. Ms. Thompson also serves as Counsel to the Freeport-based law firm of Comrie & Associates, PLLC where her practice areas include residential real estate, wills, trusts and estates, and comprehensive services for small business owners. She is the former Chair of the Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce’s MWBE committee where she worked closely with small business owners seeking government contracting opportunities. Charlene earned her B.S. from the College of William in Mary as well as a J.D. from Howard University School of Law.
